Quin Dangan Hurling: Gaelscoil Mhíchíl Cíosóg Match Report

13/6/2017

After beating Sixmilebridge NS & Clonlara NS, Quin Dangan were through to the Division 1 Semi-Final for the first time in their history and they faced Gaelscoil Mhíchíl Cíosóg in the Semi-Final.

GMC started the game with a bang scoring two points in the first five minutes, but Sam retaliated with a goal and a point and we were back in the game. It was end-to-end after the goal as GMC went through and had a shot on goal and Óisín was brave enough to make an unconventional save with his helmet. Niall scored a brilliant point which was followed by a point from GMC before the break.

At half time, Quin were up by 2 points after a good half but the message from the Coaches at the break wasn't more of the same but everything bar the kitchen sink being thrown at it.

GMC came out dominant in the second half scoring two points early in the second half, GMC got a penalty early on the second half which was saved by the one of the men on the line. Evan scored a point and Jack scored from a free putting us up by 2 points. Then a controversial decision gave GMC a penalty in the last minute which they scored. Every man went forward for the last attack, Jack had a shot, blocked, Evan had a shot, blocked once more, Niall had a shot, blocked, and it was finally cleared as the whistle blew. The season was over.

Final Score: Quin Dangan 1-4, Gaelscoil Mhíchíl Cíosóg 1-5

I have absolutely have no doubt in my mind that the Secondary Schools next year will have a great influx of new talent which this team has in spades.

Tulla will get the two thirds of Half Back line, Evan and Lorcan not mentioning our two corner forwards, Adam and COG, one of our Corner Backs, Ronan and one of our many up-and-comers, Cormac O'K.

Flannan's will get our fearless Goalkeeper, Óisín, our Half Back, Fionan and our Half Forward, Niall.

Rice will get our Full Back, Cormac and one of our up-and-comers, Daire.

The future of Hurling is bright for all of these schools.

For the last time, Senan, the journalist extrodinare, signing out.
