Here at Scoil na Mainistreach we participate, promote and compete in a variety of different sports. Among these are; gaelic football, hurling, camogie, basketball, rugby, swimming, athletics, soccer and tennis.  Our school field, which opened in early 2008, provides wonderful sporting facilities for all our students.  During the summer of 2009, we built fantastic changing rooms which further enhanced our sports facilities.  In 2011 we laid an Astro turf pitch which is an excellent all-weather surface and is used daily for hurling, football and soccer.
Training and coaching takes place during lunchtime and after school under the guidance of teachers.  We are very lucky to have enthusiastic staff on sporting fronts. Mr Lynch, a former member of the Clare County Hurling team, along with fellow Clooney-Quin hurler and captain Mr Murphy, have great expertise in passing on the knowledge of hurling and football skills while Mrs Gallagher, our school sports co-ordinator, Miss Daffy, Mr Clohessy and Ms McCormack are all excellent coaches in both camogie and Gaelic football. County board coaches visit the school once a week for two school terms and work with children of all ages on their hurling skills. We also avail of expert coaching in the areas of basketball, rugby and tennis.
We have competed and participated in the following competitions; Cumann na mBunscoil, gaelic football, hurling and camogie competitions, indoor camogie and hurling , tag rugby blitz, annual Primary Schools swimming competition,  East Clare athletics competition and the Marion Keane Memorial Basketball competition. We have enjoyed much success in the above competitions.  In recent years we were Division 2 girl’s football winners, Division 3 camogie winners, Division 5 hurling and Division 4 boys football champions.   We were silver medallists in the Marion Keane Memorial Basketball competition.   We also have had huge success in the areas of athletics and swimming.  Several of our students have been awarded County All Star awards in recent years.

Sport and physical activity is widely promoted throughout the school and there is indeed something for everybody.   In 2011 we are seeking Active school status for the school.   Scoil na Mainistreach meets all the curriculum requirements while also incorporating fun and competitiveness. We encourage all of our pupils to take part ensuring enjoyment for all along with a competitive attitude and a will to win.
